On February 26 this year, Huawei launched four new products. In addition to Watch GT Runner 2, the FreeBuds Pro 5 with dual ANC systems, HUAWEI WATCH Ultimate 2 Green Edition and Mate 80 Pro, which is a mini-tablet, were presented. All products except the Ultimate 2 Green Edition are coming to Sweden.
I have now had the opportunity to test the Watch GT Runner 2, which is a professional running watch with every feature you can imagine. I must honestly admit that running is not my great passion in life, and with a tall and heavy frame, it is not the form of exercise at the top of my list.

So, does someone like me have a use for the watch? The short answer is a resounding yes, but I will go into more detail about why I think so.
Developed for high-level runners
HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2 is a running watch developed in collaboration with Eliud Kipchoge and the dsm‑firmenich Running Team. The biggest upgrade lies in the positioning system. The new 3D floating antenna architecture provides significantly better GPS accuracy, especially in environments where many watches fail—such as in tunnels, shaded areas, and dense urban environments.

The watch analyzes intensity, power, and recovery in real-time and adjusts training recommendations accordingly. The intelligent marathon mode acts as a digital pacer with pace adjustments, power goals, and hydration and energy reminders. Everything is designed to keep you in the right zone from the first kilometer to the finish line.
Design, materials, and features
The watch is made of titanium alloy and weighs only 43.5 grams. It has a thinner profile than its predecessor, making it barely noticeable on the wrist. The new AirDry strap is sweat-resistant, quick-drying, and more flexible than previous generations. A standard strap is also included. I really like the AirDry strap, but there is one small catch: it stays looped together, and even when fully opened, it is just barely wide enough for me to fit my hand through before tightening it around my wrist. So, if you have larger hands than I do, you will have to use the other strap.

The watch is available in three colors: orange, blue, and black. Since you can make payments and download music directly to the watch, it is possible to leave both your phone and wallet at home during your workout.
Smartwatch and sports watch in one
I am something of a beginner when it comes to wearing a smartwatch, and since the GT Runner 2 is both a sports watch and a smartwatch, you get the best of both worlds. You can make payments, control music, and the camera, while it also offers advanced training features.

It’s not just running that is supported; there is a plethora of exercise forms to choose from. Even e-sports (!).

Everyday training
My personal form of exercise is primarily strength training, and with a quick press of a button, I’m ready to go. The watch keeps track of my metrics during the session and helps me maintain the pace. The watch also detects when I’m on the move and gently asks if I’m out for a walk. Everyday activity suddenly becomes a form of exercise too.

Health data and app integration
Since I started using the watch, I have become more aware of my health metrics. It offers everything from heart rate monitoring and ECG to sleep analysis and much more. I have constant access to advanced information that one usually needs to visit a doctor to obtain.

The app you download to your phone is compatible with the phone’s built-in health app, and they exchange information with each other. This provides even more precise data.
The joy of exercise and motivation
Training is suddenly more fun because you’re never truly alone. You have a motivating companion on your wrist that guides you through the exercise that suits you best. For runners, the features are even more valuable; you get exact information on how you are improving over time, can plan your runs, and keep track of distances and times.

Battery life and compatibility
The battery life is around 14 days with normal use, which I find perfectly adequate. Even with more battery-intensive features active, I never needed to charge more often than approximately every ten days.

Watch GT Runner 2 is fully compatible with both Android and iOS, and all features work equally well on both systems.
If you take the opportunity to pre-order the watch starting March 9, you get a 500 kronor discount, which means you get a very good watch for around four thousand kronor. The watch will be released on the market on March 23.
Summary and verdict
In summary, I can do nothing other than award the rating of a must-have. Watch GT Runner 2 has inspired me to take control of my training and encourages me to start running. It is stylish, feather-light on the arm, and has exactly all the features—and many more—that I think a smartwatch should have.
The price is also very affordable. The app is free, although some premium features and watch faces cost extra, but you get a lot out of it without having to pay anything. So, whether you are a professional runner or, like me, have rediscovered the charm of exercising, this is the watch for you.
