Review: Sharp – 65JP7265E

by Isabelle Alberti

TL;DR

The Sharp 65JP7265E is a 65-inch MiniLED QLED television priced at 6,500 kr. It excels with high brightness, deep blacks via Precise Local Dimming, vivid colors, rich Harman/Kardon audio, and a responsive Google TV interface. However, it is restricted to a 60 Hz refresh rate, cannot match OLED black levels, and consumes more energy than simpler panels. It fits viewers wanting a strong screen for movies, series, and casual gaming.

Autumn has made its debut, and there is no better season to curl up on the sofa with a good movie. To kick off the autumn, our smaller TV moved into the bedroom, while the Sharp 65JP7265E took its place on the living room wall for a proper test.

Sharp continues its push into the premium segment with this 65-inch MiniLED model that combines a QLED panel, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and a Harman/Kardon sound system. It is a TV aimed at users who want strong image quality, good sound straight out of the box, and a smooth smart TV experience via Google TV. We have tested the model to see how it performs in practice, and if it lives up to its promising specifications.

First impressions

I was immediately very impressed by how bright and high-contrast the image is. The MiniLED backlighting does an impressive job of keeping black levels deep and highlights truly intense, even in bright rooms. Colors are vivid and natural thanks to the QLED layer, and from the very first startup, it feels like a TV that delivers more than its price point suggests.

The first movie tested was via the Disney streaming service, and I compared the image quality in both daylight and evening darkness. In daylight, the TV delivers a clear and bright image that keeps colors vivid without becoming washed out, which is impressive for a MiniLED panel. When the room darkens, the experience becomes even better; contrast deepens, black levels become more defined, and immersion increases significantly. Regardless of lighting conditions, the Sharp 65JP7265E provides a really fine and engaging picture that makes the cinematic experience both clear and atmospheric.

I also took the opportunity to test Luca via Blu‑ray on PS5 to see if it offered any clear difference compared to streaming. Overall, there was no dramatic difference, but the image became slightly cleaner and more nuanced. Colors gained a bit more soft and natural depth, and details in textures and backgrounds appeared slightly clearer. Not a massive improvement, but enough to notice that the Blu‑ray format still has an advantage when it comes to a clean image signal. It’s a stroke of luck that I have a child obsessed with Luca, which made it easy to compare the same film on different occasions and really see how the TV handles various image sources.
The Harman/Kardon speakers also provide a rich sound directly from the TV, which means you don’t immediately feel the need to connect a soundbar.

Technical specifications and features

The Google TV system is very fast and responsive. Menus, apps, and recommendations load instantly. This makes the entire user experience feel modern and very easy to navigate. Hopping between different streaming services flows without the slightest lag. Search functions reacted immediately, and voice control via Google Assistant picks up commands without delay.

When it comes to connectivity, Sharp offers four HDMI 2.1 ports (4K @ 60 Hz), HDMI eARC, two USB ports, LAN, WiFi, an optical output, and a headphone jack. ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) is available for gamers. However, the panel’s 60 Hz limitation is something more demanding gamers will notice; for casual gaming, it works well, but for higher levels, 120 Hz would have been a significant upgrade. I did, however, try playing Battlefield 6 and it was actually not bad at all, but of course, for more serious gamers, this is probably not the right TV.

Sharp 65JP7265E is based on a MiniLED panel with Precise Local Dimming, which means hundreds of small LED zones can be controlled individually to provide better contrast and deeper blacks. This is clearly noticeable in dark scenes where details remain instead of disappearing into gray tones, and in bright HDR sequences where highlights really pop. MiniLED technology also keeps blooming to a minimum and ensures brightness is impressively high, providing a strong HDR experience even in bright rooms. On top of this, Sharp uses a QLED layer with Quantum Dot technology, which provides a wide color volume and more lifelike colors.

The downsides

Although the Sharp 65JP7265E impresses in many areas, there are a few weaknesses that pull down the overall impression. The panel is limited to 60 Hz, which works well for movies and casual gaming but isn’t quite enough for more demanding, serious gaming where 120 Hz would have made a big difference. MiniLED technology delivers strong contrast but still doesn’t reach OLED levels in terms of absolute black levels and complete control over light zones. Even though the Harman/Kardon speakers do a good job, the sound is still not quite close to what a dedicated soundbar can deliver. Energy consumption is also higher than with simpler panel types, which is reflected in the TV’s energy class. Overall, these are not dealbreakers, but they are aspects worth keeping in mind depending on what you prioritize in a TV.

Summary

Sharp 65JP7265E proves to be an impressive TV that delivers strong image quality regardless of lighting conditions. The MiniLED panel provides deep blacks and powerful brightness, while the QLED layer enhances colors and makes the cinematic experience vivid via both streaming and Blu-ray. The sound from Harman/Kardon is rich and quite sufficient for everyday viewing, and the Google TV system is fast, modern, and easy to navigate. What brings down the overall impression is primarily the 60 Hz limitation and that MiniLED does not reach OLED levels in absolute blackness. But despite this, the Sharp 65JP7265E is a very strong choice for movies, series, and casual gaming, and a perfect way to kickstart those cozy autumn evenings on the sofa!
