True Wireless (TWS) headphones have gained significant popularity, and I’ve had the opportunity to evaluate numerous models. Among those tested, the GTW 270 HYBRID<\/strong><\/a> from Epos<\/strong> stands out as a personal favorite. This is primarily due to its successful execution of key features sought in TWS earbuds: comfort, excellent sound quality, and substantial battery life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Skullcandy<\/strong> offers a wide range of headphone options, and I’ve previously reviewed several of their models<\/a>. While positioned in a different price category than the Epos headphones, some have come close to achieving top-tier performance. This review focuses on the Grind Fuel<\/strong>, a new product from Skullcandy. Upon initial inspection, it appears that Epos may face a strong challenge to its current leading position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike previous Skullcandy earbuds I’ve tested, the Grind Fuel features a more compact design, lacking the small “arm” extension. Upon opening the case, the earbuds were partially charged, allowing for immediate use. Connecting to a smartphone requires pressing the button on the left earbud, after which it becomes discoverable in the phone’s Bluetooth menu. I also downloaded the Skullcandy<\/em> app for further customization and control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Initial testing involved a phone call to assess call quality. This revealed a recurring issue common among Skullcandy and other TWS manufacturers: the button placement. Activating the button inadvertently pushes the earbud further into the ear canal, causing discomfort. While the buttons themselves are soft, this design remains problematic. Activating the voice assistant allowed me to place the call. The audio signal was clear and distinct on both ends. Testing in a noisy environment with background chatter and music demonstrated effective noise isolation, with clear audio transmission and reception without noticeable lag or echo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the successful call test, I proceeded to explore the downloaded Skullcandy app. This app enables voice control, activated by saying “Hey Skullcandy” followed by a command such as “next song” or “lower the volume,” potentially eliminating the need to use the physical buttons. However, voice control is only functional when the app is running in the background and can sometimes exhibit a delay in processing commands. The app also offers other beneficial features, including a hearing analysis function to personalize the audio experience, a characteristic feature found in Skullcandy products<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assessing the audio quality for music playback revealed exceptional performance. The sound is clear and well-defined, with surprisingly robust bass response, resulting in a thoroughly enjoyable listening experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Grind Fuel provides a comfortable fit, even during extended use, without causing any discomfort. Battery life is also noteworthy, exceeding 40 hours according to the manufacturer’s specifications, a claim supported by my testing. The initial charge from the factory provided over 25 hours of playback time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In conclusion, the Skullcandy Grind Fuel is a compelling product and a strong contender in its category. While the placement of the button on the earbuds and the relatively large size of the case prevent it from achieving a perfect score, its overall performance and value proposition are significant. Considering its price point, the Grind Fuel presents a formidable challenge to the Epos GTW 270 Hybrid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
