The WWE 2K series returns, and many are considering this installment the best in the franchise in years. This assessment holds merit, especially considering the shortcomings of WWE2K20<\/strong>. In my view, the visual presentation and game engine have demonstrably improved, a development I anticipated after the issues presented in the 2020 release. The graphical fidelity in WWE2K22<\/strong> is significantly enhanced, a clear accomplishment for the development team. The game is visually appealing during play, and instances of bugs or glitches appear to be reduced. The animated sequences are also noteworthy, potentially setting a new standard for in-game graphics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turning to the game mechanics, WWE2K22<\/em> employs a combo-driven system. Executing attacks effectively requires stringing together button presses; for example, X,X,A on the Xbox controller. While I acknowledge this as a substantial advancement over WWE2K20, I find the gameplay somewhat artificial and restrictive. To be frank, I don’t fully align with the overwhelmingly positive sentiment surrounding this title. I find the experience more mediocre than exceptional. Revisiting the mechanics briefly, this iteration may present a steep learning curve for newcomers to the series. Even at the easiest difficulty setting, WWE2K22 can be unnecessarily challenging, impacting overall enjoyment. A single missed button press can prove detrimental, allowing the AI to capitalize with counters, making it exceedingly difficult to regain control of the match due to the “stunned” state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One notable strength of the game lies in its extensive roster of approximately 160 playable characters. This encompasses legends such as Andr\u00e9 The Giant, The Ultimate Warrior, and Hulk Hogan, alongside contemporary superstars like Austin Theory, Damian Priest, and Dominik Mysterio. The character models are noticeably improved compared to 2K20, exhibiting a greater degree of realism. Furthermore, the movement animations and signature “finishing moves” demonstrate improved fluidity compared to other WWE titles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In conclusion, WWE2K22<\/em> represents, in my estimation, a partially successful relaunch. While demonstrable enhancements are present \u2013 primarily concerning the graphics and, to a lesser extent, the now more dynamic game mechanics \u2013 issues persist. These include occasional freezes and an AI that becomes formidably challenging to overcome when trapped in a “stunned mode,” as well as persistent issues with the game servers. Consequently, my overall impression of the game remains somewhat muted. While I hoped for a more accessible and engaging experience, the various modes contribute to a sense of disorganization, potentially leaving players uncertain of their objectives and progression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
