Ready or Not 2: Here I Come<\/strong> picks up immediately after the conclusion of the first film. Grace (Samara Weaving)<\/strong> is rushed to the hospital on a stretcher, having barely survived the destruction of the Le Domas<\/strong> family. Naturally, she is immediately suspected of the night’s carnage. Her sister, Faith (Kathryn Newton)<\/strong>, arrives at the hospital\u2014Grace having neglected to update her emergency contact\u2014and is swiftly pulled into the chaos. Meanwhile, Chester Danforth (David Cronenberg)<\/strong> and the leaders of several powerful families learn of Grace’s survival, sparking a new power struggle. The two sisters must face another night of violence against a new cult of satanists, where the sole survivor is poised to become the most powerful person in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The filmmakers return<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin<\/strong> and Tyler Gillett<\/strong> return with a sequel that matches\u2014and perhaps even surpasses\u2014the 2019 original Ready or Not<\/em>. In the years since the first film, the duo has helmed major franchise entries such as Scream (2022)<\/strong><\/a> and Scream VI<\/strong>. While I find the Ready or Not<\/em> films to be significantly stronger, they do share certain recurring issues, which I will elaborate on further down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The actors and the humor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The pitch-black humor returns in top form, and Samara Weaving<\/strong> is once again exceptional in the lead role. She masterfully balances humor, warmth, vulnerability, and pure, unadulterated rage. Her portrayal of Grace remains entirely convincing. In this sequel, we also meet Grace’s sister, Faith, played by Kathryn Newton<\/strong>, whom I last saw in the underwhelming Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania<\/strong><\/a>. Newton and Weaving share excellent chemistry as sisters, blending genuine warmth with constant bickering. I would certainly welcome seeing this duo return in future installments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Family ties and new faces<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For those who find the surname Weaving familiar, Samara is the niece of Hugo Weaving<\/strong> (V for Vendetta<\/strong><\/a>, The Lord of the Rings<\/strong><\/a>). This makes for a subtle connection as Elijah Wood<\/strong> also joins the cast. Wood is fantastic as the devil\u2019s advocate, delivering his lines with impeccable, bone-dry humor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The legendary Sarah Michelle Gellar<\/strong> and Shawn Hatosy<\/strong> play a pair of sadistic twins who will stop at nothing to win. Their dynamic provides a delightful counterpoint to our protagonists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recurring problems<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As I mentioned previously, this film suffers from some of the same issues found in the directors’ Scream<\/em> films\u2014specifically, a loose grasp of human endurance. While audiences generally accept that action heroes can take a beating, the film occasionally pushes past the limits of believability, seemingly forgetting when a character should be incapacitated. When a character moves effortlessly in the next scene after a traumatic injury, it feels less like cinematic license and more like a continuity oversight. While I don’t demand total realism from a film like this, these moments can be slightly jarring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technical aspects<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come<\/em> is unfortunately not available on UHD<\/strong> in Sweden; we have to settle for the Blu-ray release. The image is presented in 1080p<\/strong> at the film’s original aspect ratio. The absence of HDR<\/strong> is noticeable, and the black levels are slightly less deep than expected for the format. The audio is provided via a DTS 5.1 Master<\/strong> audio track. It is a missed opportunity not to include a Dolby Atmos<\/strong> mix, which the disc could certainly have accommodated. While the current sound is perfectly competent, it lacks that extra “punch” and immersive height-channel precision that would have benefited the action sequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Special features<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On a more positive note, the release is packed with fun and informative bonus content, including a total of two commentary tracks. This is a significant value-add for enthusiasts and collectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Summary<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In summary, I highly recommend Ready or Not 2: Here I Come<\/em>. It is a fun, visceral, and chaotic ride that succeeds through both its high production value and strong performances. The filmmakers\u2019 commitment to practical effects over CGI<\/strong>\u2014and certainly over AI<\/strong>\u2014is refreshing and truly pays off on screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
