Audio-Technica<\/strong> has long been a well-known name in the audio world, but with the new AT-ERP3<\/strong>, the company is stepping into the market for earplugs designed to help reduce distracting noise in everyday life. The idea is not to block out the world entirely, but to make noisy environments more pleasant, whether it’s the office, public transport, or other places where noise levels can easily become taxing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The design feels well-thought-out and discreet. The soft silicone tips are shaped to sit comfortably for long periods and come with several sizes to fit different ears. The low profile makes them barely noticeable when in place, and the included storage case is easy to slip into a pocket or bag. The overall impression is stylish and functional, without any unnecessary details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Audio-Technica describes the AT-ERP3<\/em> as earplugs that effectively reduce distracting noise while still allowing important ambient sounds to pass through. They are certified as hearing protection and are stated to be able to attenuate sound by up to 26 dB<\/strong>, which on paper should make a clear difference in noisy environments such as open offices, public transport, or other everyday situations where noise levels easily become stressful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After using the earplugs in several different situations\u2014at the office, during the bus ride to work, and even while riding a motorcycle\u2014my experience, however, is that they don’t quite live up to my expectations. Sure, they dampen sound, but in my opinion, the effect is quite limited. In noisy environments, I still hear most of what is going on around me, meaning the sounds I want to avoid still capture my attention. I notice a slight difference compared to not using any earplugs at all, but not enough to make me feel less disturbed. For those seeking a significant reduction in everyday noise, there is therefore a risk that the AT-ERP3 won’t quite meet expectations. I believe that with a price tag of around 220 SEK, they should deliver more than they actually do. In my opinion, I unfortunately get better results with a pair of standard earplugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, in my experience, the noise attenuation is too weak to make a significant difference in the environments where they are actually intended to be used. If you just want to tone down ambient noise slightly, they might work, but for those hoping for a noticeably calmer sound environment, there is a risk they will leave something to be desired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
