In Super Meat Boy 3D<\/strong> we once again get to know the skinless hunk of meat Meat Boy<\/strong>, who is trying to save Bandage Girl<\/strong> from the evil Dr. Fetus<\/strong>. Just like in the 2D version, he never stands still, and long red blood trails reveal where he has been. The levels are filled with various traps and enemies, and for those of you who thought the Meat Boy<\/em> games were difficult in two <\/em>dimensions, it won’t be any easier now that the series is introducing a third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Series to Love and Hate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Super Meat Boy<\/em> games are the kind of series that I both love and hate at the same time. Because the sweetness of succeeding with a long series of really tricky jumps and reaching the next level is so much more satisfying in a game that doesn’t help you along at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have played and reviewed a couple of the previous games, and Super Meat Boy Forever <\/a><\/strong> is something I still play every now and then when I want a bit of a challenge. So, now that a 3D version of Super Meat Boy<\/em> has appeared, I simply have to try it out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Graphics, Controls, and New Challenges<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The look and setup are familiar, and the third dimension clearly adds to the gameplay value. Our character is just as bloody and raw as in the 2D version, but we now have a whole host of new challenges to look forward to. For one, the levels are not as linear as before; instead, you can now explore different solutions to progress. The controls are easy to learn but extremely difficult to master, and just like in the 2D version, you’ll have to prepare yourself to die, often…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every time you die, you are sent back quite a bit, which means you often have to do the same sequence over and over again. It can be very frustrating when you miss the tenth detail and have to redo the other nine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Performance and Platforms<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The graphics are well-crafted and fun, and there are no problems at all playing Super Meat Boy 3D<\/em> on the built-in screen of the Nintendo Switch 2<\/strong>. The frame rate sits between 40\u201350 FPS<\/strong> in handheld mode and a steady 60 FPS<\/strong> in docked mode, which gives the game a very pleasant flow. I experienced no lag or other issues, even in really demanding areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Super Meat Boy 3D<\/em> is not available for the original Switch, but only for Switch 2 and other next-gen consoles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In summary, Super Meat Boy 3D<\/em> is a perfect continuation for those who appreciate the previous games. For those who have never heard of the game series, however, it will be tough. It is certainly not easier in three dimensions; on the contrary, it is if anything even harder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, I still want to recommend Super Meat Boy 3D<\/em>, precisely because it is a fun and challenging game. But sometimes it is a bit too<\/em> difficult for its own good, so the rating isn’t quite as high as the other versions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
