Ah, Sennheiser<\/a>. Just the name makes the eardrums of us audio geeks at the office tingle a bit. Especially when the word “Momentum” is involved. It is Sennheiser’s premium tier, where sound and design quality are in focus. So when the fourth generation of completely wireless earbuds arrived at the office, the question wasn’t whether they would sound good, but how good. We have tested many of Sennheiser’s creations before and have been very satisfied overall (Momentum Sport<\/a> for example). At first glance, these earbuds are real beauties. They don’t scream “look at me” with a lot of flashy details, but rather whisper “we know we’re good” with their sober, German premium feel. The buds themselves are not the smallest on the market; they protrude noticeably more from the ears than the editorial favorite Jabra Elite 10 Gen 2<\/a>, for example. However, you don’t notice them in your ears, and you can definitely wear them all day. On the other hand, your pocket will definitely notice that the case lives there; the case doesn’t actually fit comfortably in all pants pockets. The charging case is covered in a stylish, textile-like material that not only feels pleasant in the hand but also resists fingerprints in an exemplary way\u2014though we\u2019ll have to see how kind the test of time is to the fabric. It is robust, with a magnetic lid that closes with a satisfying and reassuring click. For us at the office, the size of the case and earbuds is a sacrifice we are happy to make given the overall experience, but if you are looking for the absolute smallest and most flexible solution, there are better alternatives, where the Jabra Elite 10 Gen 2 with its slim case and small buds is a close contender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sound <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Okay, buckle up. Now things are really taking off. The sound is the reason you choose Sennheiser, and they do not disappoint. The bass is exactly as it should be: tight, fast, and punchy without becoming overwhelming. It handles complex rhythms in songs like Tataki<\/em> by Argy<\/strong> with impressive control. The same control is found in the deep, rumbling bass of Billie Eilish’s<\/strong> Bad Guy<\/em>, where every beat is tight and clear without becoming the least bit muddy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The midrange is crisp and honest; pull out a classic like Fleetwood Mac’s<\/strong> Landslide<\/em> and notice how every pluck of the guitar emerges clearly and distinctly. But it\u2019s the treble\u2026 oh, the treble that really makes these earbuds shine. We put on Albin Lee Meldau’s<\/strong> Josefin<\/em> and it was almost a religious experience \u2013 the vocals become almost heartbreakingly intimate and present, a testament to how well the earbuds handle delicate singing. Goosebumps is just the beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even the soundstage is surprisingly wide. Start the intro to Pink Floyd’s<\/strong> Time<\/em> and the clocks tick and ring from places that feel like they’re coming from somewhere other than inside our ears. The noise cancellation is really good\u2014not class-leading, but really good! But the true superpower, where Sennheiser almost always wipes the floor with the competition, is the wind reduction. A walk along a windy Riddarfj\u00e4rden in Stockholm was no problem; the sound from our favorite podcasts remained clear even in the strong gusts that Stockholm experienced in June \u2013 without us needing to turn up the volume! Worth its weight in gold in our long, windy country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The app is like that super-talented but slightly moody colleague. Once it\u2019s up and running, it\u2019s great, with plenty of smart settings and features (though we rarely felt the need to fiddle with any audio settings as they were so good right out of the box). But sometimes it takes an extra coffee break before connecting to the earbuds. It’s not a major issue, but in this price range, you expect immediate service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Buying Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 is a bit like choosing a finer bottle of wine from the shelf instead of the usual box. Is it necessary? No. Is it worth it? Absolutely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are for those of you who prioritize sound highly. For those who actively listen to music and want to experience more nuances. They are expensive, yes. They are a bit bulky, sure. But they sound so fantastically good that you quickly forget that. The budget stings a bit, but our ears have rarely been happier, and we can warmly recommend the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
