I have reviewed numerous games<\/a> and movies<\/a> here on senses.se<\/a>, but this marks my first review of headphones<\/a>. Here are my thoughts on the Plantronics RIG 600LX<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Readers may recognize the name, as we previously evaluated the wireless model, the Plantronics RIG 800LX<\/strong><\/a>, both on the site and in our video channel.<\/p>\n

The RIG 600LX is a wired headset designed primarily for Xbox One (providing both audio and microphone connectivity through a single connection) and featuring Dolby Atmos support (a license code is included, valued at approximately SEK 150). My initial focus was naturally on testing Dolby Atmos<\/strong>. This sound format has become dominant in cinemas, but how does it translate to gaming? Unfortunately, the number of Xbox One games that support Atmos is limited. Of those available, I own Gears of War 4<\/strong><\/a>. The resulting experience is remarkable. The surround sound sensation closely mimics having a full speaker setup in the room. The realism was striking, prompting a moment of concern about the volume levels and potential disturbance to neighbors! This immersion is impressive for a two-earcup design. Connecting the RIG 600LX to the Xbox One controller utilizes a hub that provides EQ mode selection, volume adjustment, and microphone muting. This interface is intuitive and streamlined. Increasing the volume creates a fully enveloping soundscape.<\/p>\n

\"plantronics<\/a><\/p>\n

Even games lacking native Atmos support sound exceptional through these headphones. I particularly enjoy Playdead’s INSIDE<\/a><\/strong>, which I own across multiple consoles. Testing the headphones with my Nintendo Switch<\/strong><\/a> revealed subtle audio details previously unnoticed. For example, amidst the ambient buzzing and background noise, the faint beep of a telephone receiver hanging in a specific location became audible. Despite numerous playthroughs on various consoles, using different headphones and speaker systems, this specific detail had previously escaped my attention.<\/p>\n

The headphones are also compatible with computers. While PC users can utilize Atmos, the surround sound capability is limited without dedicated software or hardware. The overall sound quality remains robust, delivering ample power when required, alongside clear and distinct dialogue. The Plantronics 600LX<\/em> also functions with mobile devices; however, despite being among the more aesthetically pleasing gaming headsets, its size might make it somewhat conspicuous for everyday use. Furthermore, the microphone boom, while functional for phone calls, is quite prominent. Thankfully, it is detachable for use as standard headphones.<\/p>\n

The LX1 amplifier, featuring EQ and volume control, connects directly to the Xbox One controller.<\/p><\/div>\n

Technically, the RIG 600LX shares similarities with the RIG 800LX, featuring 40 mm dynamic drivers with bass reflex. The frequency response is a standard 20-20,000 kHz (theoretical), and amplification is handled by the LX1 EQ module that connects to the Xbox controller. The earcups utilize memory foam to maximize comfort. An additional useful feature is the ability to manually adjust the balance between game audio and opponent voice chat, providing convenient control without navigating through menus.<\/p>\n

The noise-canceling microphone delivers clear and intelligible audio during multiplayer sessions. Its detachable design is a welcome feature for extended single-player campaigns.<\/p>\n

In conclusion, the RIG 600LX represents another impressive headset from Plantronics<\/a>, optimized for Xbox One while remaining compatible with other platforms (at least for audio output). While current availability in Swedish retail stores appears limited, importing the headset for approximately one thousand SEK represents excellent value, considering its overall quality, design, performance, and Dolby Atmos support. The investment is worthwhile, as the enhanced audio fidelity compared to cheaper headphones is readily apparent. Highly recommended.<\/p>\n
