We previously evaluated the ADATA SE900G<\/a><\/strong> SSD, a device that, while competent, proved to be excessively large for many users. In this review, we examine its sibling, the ADATA SE770G<\/strong>, which offers specifications that are more practical for the average user, coupled with a significantly more appealing price point.<\/p>\n

Externally, the drives exhibit considerable similarities, including RGB lighting (which, notably, cannot be disabled). The SE770G is a smaller iteration of the SE900G, both in physical dimensions and internal specifications.<\/p>\n

ADATA specifies a maximum speed of 1000 MB\/s for read operations and 800 MB\/s for write operations. Our initial measurements, conducted via USB 3.2 (USB-C), yielded the following results:<\/p>\n

The measured write speed closely aligned with ADATA’s specifications, while the read speed was approximately 10% below the stated maximum when tested on a modern Apple M1 system utilizing USB 3.2.<\/p>\n

DiskSpeedTest results exhibited comparable write speeds, with slightly lower read speeds. However, these speeds remain suitable for the majority of common use cases.<\/p>\n

The question remains: how significant are these performance figures in practical scenarios? In our assessment, the impact is minimal. During everyday usage, such as transferring large files between systems or performing backups, the SE770G exhibits a responsiveness virtually indistinguishable from that of the SE900G, despite costing approximately half as much.<\/p>\n

We also evaluated the SE770G with current-generation consoles, specifically the Playstation 5<\/a><\/strong> and Xbox Series X<\/a><\/strong>, successfully utilizing it as an external storage source for games supporting SSDs via USB (primarily older titles). Once again, the performance difference compared to substantially more expensive drives was negligible. The SSD is also compatible with previous-generation consoles, such as the PS4 and Xbox One, where an external SSD can significantly improve the gaming experience<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This is not ADATA’s first SSD to approach 1 GB\/s transfer speeds. As our previous reviews indicate, the ADATA SE800<\/a> achieved similar speeds several years ago. A key improvement with the SE770G is its enhanced build quality and robustness, including the integration of a dedicated heatsink.<\/p>\n

While the SE900G may offer advantages for professionals requiring maximum transfer speeds and possessing hardware capable of fully utilizing its capabilities, the SE770G presents a compelling value proposition for general users. For those seeking a fast, reliable backup solution, or an external drive for game consoles, the ADATA SE770G delivers exceptional performance for its price. Priced around 1500 SEK, this SSD earns our recommendation and a place on our reference list within the budget price category.<\/p>\n
