Upon receiving the SXFI TRIO<\/strong> in-ear headphones from Creative<\/strong> for review, my initial assumption was that they were a wireless model. Not the True Wireless<\/strong><\/a> variety, which are entirely cable-free, but the more established type of wireless headphones featuring a cable connecting the left and right earpieces, while eliminating the direct connection to your phone. However, upon unboxing, I was surprised to discover that these are, in fact, wired<\/em> headphones. This was unexpected, considering their relatively premium price point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SXFI TRIO from Creative<\/em> includes a compact rubber carrying case and a USB-C to USB-A adapter. Unfortunately, for iPhone users like myself, the absence of a USB-C to Lightning adapter is immediately apparent. Given that iPhones utilize Apple’s proprietary Lightning<\/strong> connector instead of the USB-C standard common on Android devices, I had to order a separate adapter online before I could comprehensively test the headphones with my phone. In the interim, I connected them to my computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The headphones were immediately recognized and functional upon connection to the computer. I then attempted to download the accompanying app, which promises enhanced features. However, it appears that a desktop version is unavailable, limiting its functionality to mobile devices. Consequently, a full evaluation had to wait until the following day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Utilizing the headphones with my computer, I began by evaluating audio quality with Heart upon my Sleeve<\/strong> by Avicii<\/strong>. This track provides a diverse range of sonic textures, from delicate nuances to powerful bass elements. I immediately understood the justification for the higher price point. The audio fidelity is exceptional, with a deep and satisfying bass response. The earbuds provide a comfortable and secure fit, offering effective noise isolation without creating an overly occluded sensation. During a FaceTime<\/strong> meeting, the SXFI TRIO performed admirably, delivering clear audio for both myself and the other participants. The in-line volume control is conveniently located and easily accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was eager to test the personalized audio capabilities offered by the mobile app, which analyzes your hearing profile. The following day, the adapter arrived, and I promptly connected it, hoping to experience the full potential of the headphones…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the headphones were not recognized by my iPhone. While I opted for a more affordable adapter from a reputable brand, online research revealed that this issue is not uncommon. Apparently, achieving compatibility necessitates purchasing Apple’s premium adapter. This requirement is frustrating, as it forces iPhone users to incur additional expenses on top of the headphones’ already considerable cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To circumvent this issue, I borrowed an Android phone with a USB-C port, and the headphones functioned immediately. The app downloaded quickly, and after completing the personalization process, the audio was optimized for my specific hearing profile. While I didn’t perceive a dramatically significant difference, users who meticulously fine-tune their audio settings will likely appreciate this feature. The controller includes a button to further amplify the sound, drawing power directly from the connected device, eliminating any battery concerns. The volume controls are accompanied by a multi-function button for accessing voice assistants, controlling playback, and managing calls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In conclusion, the SXFI TRIO from Creative deliver impressive audio quality, ranking among the best in-ear headphones I’ve evaluated. However, the necessity of purchasing a separate adapter for compatibility with a significant portion of the smartphone market detracts from the overall experience. While the packaging indicates compatibility with both Android and iOS, it should include a prominent disclaimer regarding the need for an additional adapter for Apple devices. Therefore, while the SXFI TRIO are commendable, the requirement of extra accessories for iPhone users prevents me from offering an unqualified recommendation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
