We have, over the years, evaluated several headphones<\/a> from Plantronics, an American manufacturer with a generally strong track record. In recent years, they have expanded beyond the gaming segment to focus on mid-range\/entertainment headphones. The BackBeat Fit 505<\/strong> is a wireless on-ear model. Like the original BackBeat Fit<\/a>, it boasts P2i certification, providing sweat resistance. The on-ear design of this model offers several advantages over its predecessor.<\/p>\n

Plantronics demonstrates a strong understanding of design aesthetics. They consistently produce headphones that appear more premium than their price suggests. Despite the prevalence of plastic and synthetic materials, the visual distinction between these and more expensive brands is minimal. They also maintain the user-friendly button layout for controls (play\/pause, forward, and back), while offering seamless connectivity. The headphones provide approximately 18 hours of battery life on a full charge, with the option for wired connection via the included 3.5mm cable.<\/p>\n

The BackBeat Fit 505’s fit received mixed reviews from our test team. The earcups were deemed somewhat small, resulting in a less-than-ideal or fully comfortable on-ear fit for some users. Extended wear may be less comfortable. However, the headphones are lightweight, and a sporty carrying bag is included for convenient transport.<\/p>\n

The audio performance is adequate, though not exceptional. The minimalist earcup design, which doesn’t fully enclose the ear, may contribute to some perceived bass loss. The BackBeat Fit 505’s sound quality does not compare to the BackBeat PRO<\/strong><\/a> (nor does its price). However, the noise isolation performs admirably, allowing for focused listening during workouts, despite ambient gym noise. While increasing the volume improves the sound, some bass and warmth are still lacking, even on well-mixed tracks like Junge Junge’s Run Run Run<\/strong>. The BackBeat Fit 505 is suitable for gym use where sound fidelity is less critical. They are also perfectly acceptable for audiobooks and podcasts, potentially representing a more appropriate application. However, for critical music listening at home or on the go, the BackBeat Fit 505 is not the optimal choice.<\/p>\n

While the P2i coating offers beneficial moisture resistance, its impact on functionality is typically not a deciding factor unless excessive sweating poses a risk of water damage to standard headphones.
