St\u00e5lenhag&#8217;s distinctive visual style masterfully blends Swedish realism with elements of science fiction, featuring robots, alien entities, and other futuristic concepts. Consequently, upon receiving his latest book, <strong>Labyrinten<\/strong>, for review, I eagerly examined its contents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This installment transports us to a dystopian future, where the Earth&#8217;s surface has been ravaged by extraterrestrial beings. The surviving human population resides in subterranean enclaves. The narrative centers on three individuals undertaking a critical mission, which soon uncovers unsettling truths, revealing how past events are poised to influence the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.senses.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/labyrint04.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.senses.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/labyrint04-1000x549.jpg\" alt=\"Labyrinten by Simon St\u00e5lenhag Photo: senses.se\" class=\"wp-image-47353\"\/><\/a><figcaption>Photo: senses.se<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fria Ligan<\/strong> is the publisher of <em>Labyrinten<\/em>, presenting a well-crafted and beautifully bound volume. Comprising approximately 150 pages, it adheres to St\u00e5lenhag&#8217;s signature style, where the illustrations convey even more depth than the relatively concise text. The narrative maintains a cinematic quality, exploring themes of guilt, origins, and revenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.senses.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/labyrint03.jpg\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.senses.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/labyrint03-1000x409.jpg\" alt=\"foto: senses.se\" class=\"wp-image-47354\"\/><\/a><figcaption>Photo: senses.se<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While I find <em>Labyrinten<\/em> to be highly enjoyable, I hesitate to classify it as a definitive &#8220;must-read.&#8221; The story is compelling and intriguing; however, it lacks the exceptional visual storytelling prowess evident in previous works, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senses.se\/episod-6-arctis-7-bayonetta-pa-switch-passagen-spionkomedi-och-tavling\/\"><strong>Passagen<\/strong> from 2017<\/a>. Nevertheless, I greatly appreciate the distinctly Swedish atmosphere imbued within the images, from the cranes to the floral thermoses.
